Ukraine’s Armed Forces have put into service a ‘Vilkha’ (Alder), a new multiple launch rocket system.

“The missile system was adopted by the Ukrainian army and its mass production will soon begin. The management of the Design Bureau Luch, which developed the new Ukrainian weapon, predicts that the army will receive the missile system in the middle of 2019,” the report says, citing the official page of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The Vilkha is a Ukrainian project to create a multiple launch rocket system with adjustable ammunition based on the Soviet MLRS 9K58 Smerch.

As earlier reported, in December 2017 the Vilkha weapons system was tested. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said then that Hr 1.6 billion would be required to begin mass producing the weapons system. On April 25, 2018, the president approved serial production of the system.
