A Russian missile attack pummeled the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv early Sunday morning, injuring at least three people.
One Russian ballistic missile partially destroyed a building housing offices of state channels broadcasting in foreign languages, a television channel cited by AFP said Sunday.
“On April 6 overnight, a Russian ballistic missile strike on Kyiv caused significant destruction to buildings housing the editorial offices of Ukraine’s State Foreign Broadcasting Enterprise,” the Freedom television channel said in a statement, adding that its newsroom in the building was destroyed.
Missile strikes hit the Darnytsky, Solomiansky, and Obolon districts, sparking fires and prompting urgent responses from medical teams, according to a report by Ukrinform.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported the situation on his Telegram channel.
“A medical team is en route to respond to calls in the Darnytsky district,” Klitschko shared. He also noted that the missile attack on Kyiv remains ongoing.
Later, Klitschko updated that medics had been dispatched to the Obolon district as well. “Medical teams are on their way to the Obolon district following calls for assistance,” he confirmed.
Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, added that fires had been reported in the Darnytsky and Obolon districts due to the enemy attack. “Rescuers are already on their way,” Tkachenko stated on Telegram.
According to Vitali Klitschko, debris fell in two places in the Obolon district of the capital on the territory of non-residential buildings.
Later, the mayor said that the hit also occurred in the Solomiansky district and there were victims in the Darnytsky district.
“Fires were recorded in Darnytsky, Solomiansky and Obolon districts of the city. There are victims in the Darnytsky district. Medics and other services are at the scene,” Klitschko reported.
The mayor reported that debris landed in two locations within the Obolon district of Kyiv, affecting non-residential buildings.
The missile attack was preceded by an enemy drone attack, and air defenses forces were operating in Kyiv and the region.
