Polish customs officials have seized five metric tons of Boeing aircraft tires destined for Russia, Poland’s National Revenue Administration (KAS) said on Monday.
The shipment, which was falsely declared to be truck and bus tires, was intercepted in the eastern village of Koroszczyn at a border crossing with Belarus during a routine inspection.
In a statemetn KAS said: “The sender of the goods was a company from Spain, and the recipient was from Azerbaijan.
“Criminal fiscal proceedings were initiated in connection with customs fraud. The sanctioned goods were detained.”
The shipment was intended to transit through Belarus and Russia, both under tightened Western sanctions following Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Aircraft components and dual-use items are among goods strictly restricted under European Union sanctions against Russia.
