Russia Launches Morning Drone Strikes Across Ukraine, Hits Odesa and Rail Lines

Russia struck Odesa, Chernivtsi, Poltava, and Ivano-Frankivsk with drones Friday morning, damaging homes, infrastructure, and rail lines. Multiple injuries and power outages reported.

Russian forces launched multiple drone strikes across Ukraine early Friday, May 23, targeting several regions including Odesa, Chernivtsi, Poltava, and Ivano-Frankivsk.

According to Oleh Kiper, head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration (OVA), strike drones hit the suburbs of Odesa, damaging a private house and injuring a man.

The victim received medical care, and emergency services are working to mitigate the aftermath. Later, Kiper clarified that two people got injured.

Explosions were also reported in Odesa city during the drone attack, with social media users noting active air defense in the area.

In the Chernivtsi region, Russian drones targeted railway infrastructure in the early morning hours. Damage was confirmed, but no injuries were reported among railway employees or passengers.

According to Ukrzaliznytsia, trains are continuing to operate on schedule. The State Emergency Service (DSNS) reported a fire at the scene, which was successfully extinguished.

In the Ivano-Frankivsk region, local air defenses were active. Svitlana Onyshchuk, head of the OVA, confirmed damage to buildings and vehicles in the Kolomyia district.

Meanwhile, in the Poltava region, drones caused widespread destruction. A direct hit destroyed a building at an industrial facility in the Kremenchuk community, and debris sparked a fire.

DSNS units localized the blaze, while the blast wave damaged seven private homes. One person was injured but declined hospitalization.

The drone attack also caused major power outages. As of this morning, around 100 legal entities and nearly 1,800 household customers were left without electricity.

In the Poltava district, drone debris damaged a power line, cutting off supply to over 270 customers. Repair crews are working to restore electricity.
