Kharkiv Bombarded by Russian Drones and Missiles: 3 Dead, 22 Injured

A Russian overnight assault on Kharkiv killed three and wounded 22, as missiles, bombs, and drones struck residential areas and public buildings.

Overnight Russian strikes on Kharkiv killed three and injured 22, including a baby and teen, officials say. Drones, missiles, and bombs hit homes, schools, and businesses.

Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported that at 4:38 a.m. Saturday, at least 40 explosions were heard from Kharkiv’s Osnovyansky and Kyiv districts over the course of an-hour-and-a-half.

“This is open terror,” Terekhov wrote.

Two hours later, he reported that emergency workers had rescued a woman who had been trapped under the rubble of a high-rise building in the center of Kharkiv and she was receiving medical attention.

At about 9 a.m. rubble was still being cleared, but three bodies had been found, the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov, said in a social media post.

Syniehubov said that the Russians struck two apartment buildings, two local enterprises, two cars, an administrative building, and a children’s music school.

Among the 21 injured in Kharkiv city, there was a 1.5-month-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, he said.

At Osnovyansky and Kyiv districts alone, the Russians fired three missiles, five KABs (glide bombs), four MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System), and 48 UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) Syniehubov said.

The Russians also struck a private home and injured a 64-year-old man in Kupyansk, Syniehubov reported.

Despite ongoing peace talks, there are no signs of an approaching ceasefire in Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

Last week was one of the most intense weeks of Russian airstrikes on Ukraine since the start of Russia’s unprovoked full-scale invasion, now in its fourth year.

Then, on Sunday, June 1, the Ukrainians hit back with the covert operation “Spiderweb” where the Ukrainians damaged or destroyed approximately 40 Russian bombers using drones hidden in trucks.

In retaliation, the Russians have resumed mass attacks, primarily striking Ukrainian civilians and emergency workers.
