Kyiv Post previously reported on French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu’s announcement of a new partnership between a French car manufacturer and a French SME defense company to produce unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in Ukraine, which he described as a “win-win partnership.”
He added that France was building on Ukraine’s expertise in designing and manufacturing battlefield drones along with its “ongoing tactical and operational training that reflects the reality” of the war in Ukraine.
At the time the car maker wasn’t revealed but Bloomberg has reported that the French defense ministry has in fact approached Renault to produce the drones for Ukrainian and French armies,
“France Info reported on Sunday Renault will work with a small company to set up production lines dozens or hundreds of kilometers away from the frontline,” the media outlet wrote.
A spokesperson for Renault told Bloomberg that the car company and the French government were discussing the collaboration but had not yet taken any firm decisions as the company awaits further details from the defense ministry.
