Mykolaiv’s Ports ‘Massively Attacked’ by Russian Drones – Mayor

Vitaliy Kim, the mayor of southern Ukraine’s Mykolaiv, said Sunday’s attacks targeted the city’s port infrastructure, damaging warehouses and the power grid.

Mykolaiv in southern Ukraine had been subjected to a “massive” Russian drone strike on Sunday morning, according to the city’s mayor.

Mykolaiv, about 100 kilometers (62 miles) east of Odesa and 60 kilometers (37 miles) west of Kherson, is a city in southern Ukraine that hosts ports and maritime factories.

Mykolaiv Mayor Vitaliy Kim said the city came under Russian kamikaze drone attacks in the early hours of Sunday.

“On the night of July 6, the city was massively attacked by drones of the Shahed 131/136 type. The port infrastructure was under attack. As a result of the attack, warehouse buildings and power grids were damaged,” Kim wrote in his Sunday morning update

Kim said damages were recorded in private houses, recreation centers and a post office across the region.

“At night, July 6, the enemy attacked the Koblivska community with drones of the Shahed 131/136 type. As a result, 13 private houses, buildings on the territory of several recreation centers, a Ukrposhta branch, and a shop were damaged in the village of Rybakivka,” Kim wrote.

While Kim reported no casualties at the time, he later stated that one person was injured in a subsequent update at 9:50 a.m. after another air raid siren was issued 30 minutes prior.

Kim said 26 drones were downed in the region overnight.

The Ukrainian Air Force, in its Sunday morning update, said Russia launched a total of 157 drones and four S-300 missiles at 19 locations across northern, eastern, southern and central Ukraine.

The Air Force said it shot down 98 drones and suppressed another 19 via electronic warfare (EW) systems.
