Ukrainian Company Plans Servicing Hubs for Foreign-Sourced Drones

A local producer said it is working with its foreign counterparts to establish repair centers to reduce maintenance time for imported operational drones used in Ukraine.

Ukrspecsystems, a Ukrainian drone manufacturer, said it is working to establish a service center for foreign drones to reduce maintenance and repair times.

While Kyiv has sought to explore joint drone production with foreign partners, Ukrspecsystems plans to agree with foreign manufacturers on a capability to repair specific components inside Ukraine should they break down.

Andriy Rymaruk, the company’s deputy director, told defense outlet Militarnyi that the plan aims to “reduce the logistical burden.”

“We are ready to take on international products for servicing in order to reduce the logistical burden. For example, if your drone breaks down, instead of sending it to Poland, the Czech Republic, or even the UK for repairs, we are ready to do it in Ukraine,” Rymaruk said.

The company established contacts with foreign suppliers and manufacturers during a networking event organized by the Ukrainian defense cluster Brave1, the publication wrote.

But Rymaruk said its staff will likely need to be certified by the original manufacturers to repair the drones after concluding any agreements. They would also need to set up the necessary logistics system to optimize component availability in Ukraine to make necessary repairs.

That said, Rymaruk added that Ukrspecsystems has performed minor repairs in the past, presumably on behalf of local users, to reduce the downtime.

He also said his company is open to directly participating in the supply chain.

“We are ready to be their contractor in the production of various spare parts and electronics, and we are ready to manufacture composite materials on a fairly large scale,” he told Militarnyi.

“We are ready to carry out full or partial R&D (research and development) and, in general, we are ready to deliver entire projects on a turnkey basis,” he added.

Among Ukrspecsystems’s own products are the PD-2 drone capable of vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) and a series of surveillance drones called Shark, according to its product catalog.

The Shark drone is a Ukrainian reconnaissance drone developed after the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, and it has helped Ukrainian troops adjust artillery fire on a Russian 2S5 self-propelled gun since 2024.

As noted by a Ukrainian drone operator in his recent comments to Kyiv Post, operational-level drones like Ukrspecsystems’s Shark are highly valued by troops, as they are more capable and are therefore more valuable compared to tactical-level drones.
