Russia reportedly struck a railway station in central Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region overnight on Sunday, setting it ablaze and prompting train delays.
A video shared by Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, CEO of Ukraine’s state-owned railway Ukrzaliznytsia, shows a train station building engulfed in flames, sending sparks into the dark night sky.
Pertsovskyi, in his Facebook caption accompanying the video, called the attack a “massive raid” on a railway junction but added that there were no reported casualties.
“The peace process carried out by the barbarian neighbors currently looks like this. Another night and another massive raid on a railway junction, including the train station. Dnipropetrovsk region,” Pertsovskyi wrote, referencing the upcoming peace talks in Alaska between the US and Russia on Ukraine without Kyiv’s participation.
Pertsovskyi did not specify the location of the attack.
“All on-duty workers were taken away ahead of time, so the most important thing is that there were no casualties,” he added.
It is unclear what weapons – drones or missiles – were used in the attack.
Ukrzaliznytsia reported delays for multiple routes passing through the junction as a result of the attack.
“Trains running on the section from the Dnipro to Zaporizhia and in the opposite direction will pass the damaged section under an auxiliary locomotive and will be delayed for an hour,” Ukrzaliznytsia wrote in its Sunday morning update.
Two train routes require detours to bypass the station and junctions that have been attacked.
“Train No. 92 Odesa–Kramatorsk and No. 824 Dnipro–Kharkiv will run via the Samar-Dniprovsky station. The return flights of these trains will also be detoured,” the update adds.
The Dnipropetrovsk region has seen intensified attacks in recent months as Russia attempted to launch incursions into this industrial hub.
In late June, Russian troops struck near a civilian train in the region, with the moment of the attack captured on camera by passengers onboard. The attack on the region that day claimed the lives of at least 18 civilians and injured more than 300.
In late July, a Russian missile strike overnight destroyed a large shopping center in the city of Kamianske.
In early July, Russia claimed to have captured a settlement on the border of the Dnipropetrovsk region – claims Kyiv denied at the time. Moscow later reported capturing a second settlement in late July.
The city of Dnipro was also targeted by Russia’s Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM) in late 2024, likely due to the city’s Yuzhmash missile development facilities. The attack marked the first recorded combat use of an MRBM in history.
