President Volodymyr Zelensky tweeted 20 thank-you messages in a row addressed to world leaders following his Monday summit at the White House with US President Donald Trump and European leaders.
Zelensky hailed the summit as positive, noting that security guarantees and a planned trilateral meeting with Trump and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin are in the works, while territorial concessions remain a subject of his direct talks with the Kremlin leader.
After being accused of being ungrateful for US assistance during the infamous White House clash in February, Zelensky kicked off the Monday meeting with a series of thank you messages and followed it with more addressed to European leaders.
On X, Zelensky posted a total of 20 “Thank you for your support!” updates while reposting previous updates from world leaders, thanking them for their help in securing the success on Monday.
The first six are addressed to the European leaders who accompanied him on Monday during his talks with Trump: French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
On Monday, the leaders reaffirmed the need for security guarantees for Kyiv, with members of the so-called “Coalition of the Willing” pledging to keep building the framework for post-war security – including the possible deployment of foreign troops.
The remaining thank-you notes were addressed to other European leaders who voiced their support for Kyiv and welcomed the positive outcomes on Monday. Many of them are among the “Coalition of the Willing” and had a call with Zelensky on Monday.
Some of the leaders also called for increased pressure on the Kremlin to force Russia into a ceasefire that it has thus far avoided, despite months of urging by the international community.
Those included European Council President António Costa, Norwegian Prime Minister
Jonas Gahr Støre, Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, Romanian President Nicușor Dan, Estonian President Kristen Michal, Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin, Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, and Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski.
