Russian forces sent 150 drones against Ukraine overnight on Sept. 1-2, the Ukrainian Air Force said. By the morning, air defenses had shot down or disabled 120 drones over the north, south, east, and center of the country.
Thirty drones hit targets in nine different locations, and debris from downed drones fell in five more places.
In Bila Tserkva, a city in the Kyiv region, a fire broke out after the attack. Firefighters later found the body of a man at a garage cooperative.
In the city of Sumy, drones hit nonresidential buildings in the Zarichny district, sparking a large fire. Several people were injured, including a child.
In Dnipropetrovsk region, drones and artillery damaged a five-story apartment building and an administrative office, according to regional governor Serhiy Lysak. One man was injured but received outpatient care.
The strike came after several heavy Russian attacks last week. On Aug. 28, missiles and drones hit Kyiv, killing 25 people, including four children, and damaging residential and diplomatic buildings.
On Aug. 30, Russia struck Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro and Pavlohrad, leaving one person dead and 24 injured. On Aug. 31, drones hit power facilities in Chornomorsk, Odesa region, cutting electricity for nearly 30,000 people and injuring one.
