A fire broke out in the early hours of Saturday, Oct. 4 at the Kirishi Oil Refinery in Russia’s Leningrad region following a drone attack, Russian officials said.
The ASTRA Telegram channel shared footage showing flames at the KirishiNefteOrgSintez facility.
Leningrad region Gov. Alexander Drozdenko confirmed the attack and said the blaze in the industrial zone was extinguished. He said seven drones were destroyed over Kirishi but did not specify where the fire started.
Andrii Kovalenko, head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, confirmed the attack on the refinery, one of Russia’s five largest, with an annual capacity of about 21 million tons of crude oil. The plant was previously targeted in September and March 2025, and in March 2024.
State-run news agency Ukrinform reported that on Friday, Oct. 3, Ukrainian long-range drones also struck another major Russian refinery, OrskNefteOrgSintez.
