Russian Drone Strike Hits Passenger Train at Shostka Station; Dozens Injured

A Russian drone struck a passenger train at Shostka station Saturday, injuring dozens and setting a carriage ablaze, officials and President Zelensky said.

A Russian drone struck a passenger train at the railway station in the city of Shostka on Saturday, injuring dozens of people, regional and national officials said.

Oleh Hryhorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, said on Telegram that Russia “deliberately struck civilian infrastructure,” and that rescuers, medics, and other emergency services were working at the scene as an operational headquarters was set up.

President Volodymyr Zelensky posted video from the site on Telegram and called the attack “a savage Russian drone strike,” saying dozens were known to have been injured and that both passengers and Ukrzaliznytsia railway employees were among the victims. He renewed an appeal for decisive international action against what he called “terror.”

“The Russians could not have been unaware that they were striking civilians. And this is terror the world must not ignore,” Zelensky stated. “Every day, Russia takes people’s lives. And only strength can make them stop. We’ve heard resolute statements from Europe and America – and it’s high time to turn them all into reality, together with everyone who refuses to accept murder and terror as normal. Lip service is not enough now. Strong action is needed.”

Emergency services said people were being given medical help and rescue operations were ongoing.
