Russian strike drones hit Kharkiv overnight, sparking multiple fires and damaging homes and infrastructure, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES) reported early Monday, Oct. 6.
The attack began around 11 p.m. and lasted for about an hour. Explosions rocked several districts as drones struck residential areas. Fires broke out in at least two city districts, the SES said.
Private houses, warehouses, garages, and cars were also damaged. Four people were injured, according to preliminary information.
Rescue teams, medics, and explosives specialists worked through the night to contain the fires and clear debris.
“Emergency crews are continuing to respond,” the SES said, releasing photos of the aftermath.
The Kharkiv attack came amid a nationwide wave of Russian strikes – one of the most massive since the start of the full-scale war.
Russian forces launched groups of Shahed-type drones from more than five directions late Saturday, with air defenses active in Kyiv, Odesa, and other regions. Hours later, Moscow fired Kalibr cruise missiles from ships in the Black Sea and Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missiles from MiG-31K fighter jets targeting western Ukraine, including Lviv.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia had fired more than 50 missiles and about 500 combat drones over the weekend.
“These were some of the heaviest combined strikes on Ukraine,” officials said, noting that while many targets were intercepted, several still hit civilian areas.
