Ballistic Missiles and Drones Target Southern and Central Ukraine Overnight

Russia has dismissed US calls to end its nearly four-year invasion of Ukraine, pressing ahead with ground offensives and intensifying strikes on the country’s energy infrastructure.

Explosions were reported overnight in Ukraine’s Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, and Mykolaiv regions as Russian forces carried out fresh missile and drone strikes overnight on Monday, local officials said.

Residents in Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia heard explosions shortly after 4 a.m. following warnings of a ballistic missile threat, according to Ukrainian media reports and local authorities. The Ukrainian Air Force said it had detected a high-speed target approaching the region before the blasts.

In Zaporizhzhia, regional governor Ivan Fedorov said four explosions were recorded in the Zaporizhzhia district. Damage assessments were ongoing Friday morning.

Russia has dismissed US calls to end its nearly four-year invasion of Ukraine, pressing ahead with ground offensives and intensifying strikes on the country’s energy infrastructure.

Both Moscow and Kyiv claimed advances in the battle for the strategic eastern city of Pokrovsk, where Ukrainian forces are facing heavy Russian attacks involving thousands of troops.

Meanwhile, Mykolaiv came under attack from Shahed-type drones launched by Russian forces. The strikes caused a large fire in the city overnight, regional governor Vitaliy Kim said.

“Following the Shahed drone attack, a fire broke out in the city. All emergency services are working,” Kim reported on Telegram around 3:30 a.m.

Kim later said the blaze had been extinguished by 7 a.m. after spreading to a hardware supermarket. Several buildings at a car service station, two vehicles, and windows in a nearby apartment block were also damaged. No casualties were reported.

Ukraine’s Air Force and regional authorities continued to warn of ongoing drone and missile threats early Monday as Russia’s attacks on civilian areas persisted into the winter season.
