The National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) notified a former deputy prime minister of Ukraine that they are under investigation for “illegal enrichment” on Tuesday, the NABU press service reported.
“According to the investigation, the former official was among those who visited the so-called ‘laundry’ – a place where money obtained through criminal means was legalized. The ‘laundry’ was controlled by the head of the criminal organization exposed yesterday by NABU and SAPO,” the statement says.
Detectives documented the transfer of over $1.2 million and nearly €100,000 ($116 thousand) in cash to the suspect and his trusted associate.
It concerns a deputy prime minister who appears in the “NABU recordings” under the codename “Che Guevara.”
According to the sources of “Ukrayinska Pravda,” the person in question is Oleksiy Chernyshov.
Kyiv Post yesterday published a detailed breakdown of what is currently known about the large-scale NABU and SAPO “Operation Midas,” which has allegedly uncovered a money-laundering scheme involving “kickbacks” in the energy sector.
