‘Madyar’s Birds’ Pound Chemical Plant, Power Hub in Occupied Crimea

The targeted Brom plant is one of the largest of its kind in Crimea and the only producer of bromine compounds in Eastern Europe.

Ukraine carried out strikes on a major chemical plant and a high-voltage power substation in the Russian-occupied city of Krasnoperekopsk in northern Crimea over the weekend, Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces (USF) commander Robert “Madyar” Brovdi reported on Sunday, Nov. 23.

Brovdi wrote on Facebook that his “Madyar’s Birds” drone unit targeted the Perekop Bromine Plant, a major industrial facility that produces bromine-based chemicals used across several sectors, including Russia’s military industry.

The Brom plant is one of the largest of its kind in Crimea and the only producer of bromine compounds in Eastern Europe.

Drone units also struck the 220-kilovolt Krasnoperekopsk main power substation overnight on Nov. 23-24, Brovdi said, describing it as a key node in the peninsula’s energy grid. He said several energy sites in occupied areas suffered outages after the attack.

Brovdi stressed that the operation was carried out by the 1st Separate Center of the Unmanned Systems Forces, formerly known as the 14th Drone Regiment.

“A courtesy visit by the Unmanned Systems Forces was delivered by the Birds of the 1st Separate USF Center,” he wrote.

He added that the strikes were part of a broader Ukrainian effort to undermine Russian fuel and energy infrastructure.

“Madyar’s Birds” have led several high-profile drone operations in Crimea in recent months. On Nov. 13, the group destroyed a base for Russia’s Orion attack drones. In September 2025, fighters from the same brigade shot down an Orion drone in mid-air.

Earlier this month, Brovdi warned that Russia could face rolling blackouts as Ukrainian forces prepare retaliatory operations.
