As US Talks Peace With Ukraine, Russia Continues to Attack Civilians

As US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and his team meet with a Kyiv delegation in Miami to hash out a workable peace plan, Moscow’s forces continued to hammer civilian targets all across Ukraine over the weekend,

At least seven civilians were killed on Sunday in and around Kherson, a key port on the Dnipro River, after Russian forces launched artillery, mortars and multiple-launch rocket systems, as well as drones of various types.

Houses and apartment buildings, outbuildings, garages and vehicles have were damaged in the Russian attacks, according to the regional prosecutor’s office.

Private homes in the northern Sumy region came under attack, with Moscow’s drones targeting civilian targets there as well

“According to information from the Sumy Regional Military Administration, another of the Sumy community’s administrative districts has been hit by an enemy drone strike. There are no casualties. Two private residential buildings have been damaged: 15 windows have been broken,” a report from the Sumy City Council read.

In all, Russian forces conducted 3,813 attacks, including 59 multiple launch rocket launches, and the deployment 4,033 kamikaze drones, according to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The military reported that Moscow’s troops fired 38 missiles and dropped 110 guided bombs.

The General Staff reported that Russian airstrikes also hit the areas of Kivsharivka in the Kharkiv region, Mezhova in the Dnipropetrovsk region, Sloviansk in the Donetsk region, and five towns in the Zaporizhzhia region.

Meanwhile, one well-known activist whose Sternenko Community Foundation helps fund the Ukrainian military, reported that domestically made interceptor drones have for the first time shot down several Russian Geran-3 jet-powered drones during the Russian attacks.

Serhii Sternenko posted on social media that, in an “historic achievement”:

 “Last night, our soldiers used Ukrainian-made Sting interceptor drones to shoot down several jet-powered Shaheds for the first time ever.”

The military specified that Russia used 138 jet-powered Geran-3 drones. According to its data, most of them were successfully destroyed by Ukrainian air defense forces.

The Geran-3 has similar characteristics to the Iranian Shahed-238, and a warhead weighing about 50 kilograms, or 110 pounds. According to intelligence, the drone’s maximum flight speed reaches about 350 miles per hour, and its range is up to 1,500 miles.
