Moscow was targeted by drone attacks beginning the evening of Jan. 3, with Russian authorities saying air defenses intercepted 19 drones heading toward the capital.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on social media that the drones were downed between 7:37 p.m. and 11:37 p.m. local time. He reported no damage but said emergency crews were working at locations where debris fell.
Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency said four airports were temporarily closed, including Moscow’s Vnukovo and Zhukovsky airports, as well as airports in Yaroslavl and Ivanovo, north and northeast of the capital.
Separately, Russia’s Defense Ministry said 104 drones were shot down Saturday evening over nine Russian regions and Russian-occupied Crimea. The ministry said 44 drones were intercepted over the Bryansk region, 18 each over the Kaluga and Moscow regions, and others over the Kursk, Oryol, Tula, Tver and Rostov regions, the Krasnodar territory, Crimea and the Sea of Azov.
