Zelensky Warns ‘Massive Russian Attack’ Imminent After Day of Strikes on Civilian Infrastructure

The president urged civilians to heed air raid warnings, after Russian strikes injured at least ten in Zelensky’s hometown and plunged Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia into darkness.

In his evening address on Thursday, President Volodymyr Zelensky warned he had been informed that “another massive Russian attack may happen tonight” after a day of strikes on civilian and energy infrastructure.

Earlier in the evening, a Russian missile strike on Kryvyi Rih – Zelensky’s hometown – injured at least ten people, including a child, according to local officials.

Writing on Telegram at around 5 p.m. Kyiv time, Kryvyi Rih Defense Council head Oleksandr Vilkul said that authorities had established a relief headquarters near the site of the strike, while the air raid was ongoing.

“One man is in acritical condition, in the operating room, with his leg torn off by the explosion,” Vilkul said.

Also on Thursday, Russian strike drones attacked a port in Ukraine’s southern Odesa region, Regional Military Administration head Oleh Kiper said on Telegram. The attack damaged an empty oil storage tank but no one was injured.

“These attacks once again confirm that the enemy is purposefully striking at civilian infrastructure and objects that have no military significance, causing harm to civilians and exposing them to danger,” Kiper added.

In his evening address, Zelensky also drew attention to a growing humanitarian crisis in Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia, describing the situation there as “extremely difficult.” Russian strikes on energy infrastructure late Wednesday left large parts of the two regions without electricity, water, or heating.

“It is very important to pay attention to air alerts today and tomorrow and to always go to shelters. The Russians haven’t changed one bit. They are trying to exploit the weather,” Zelensky said.
