A 60-year-old employee of the Polish Ministry of National Defense, who has been working for the agency since the 1990s, is suspected of collaborating with Russian and Belarusian intelligence services.
The suspected mole was detained shortly after arriving at work. He was escorted from the ministry building by Military Police officers, and the entire operation was the result of a lengthy investigation conducted by the Polish Military Counterintelligence Service (SKW), according to Onet, Poland’s largest online digital news platform.
The SKW monitored this man’s activities for many months. His actions were carefully documented and analyzed. The man is currently being questioned by the Eighth Department for Military Affairs of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw.
Polish Defense Ministry spokesperson Janusz Sejm confirmed the arrest of the official, but declined to provide any details about the morning operation.
According to Onet, this is the first operation of its kind in recent years.
