At the end of January, nearly 100 million cubic meters (mcm), or 3.53 billion cubic feet (Bcf), of US liquefied natural gas (LNG) arrived and entered Ukraine’s gas transmission system.
The delivery was organized in partnership with ORLEN, Poland’s state-owned energy company, and routed through Poland’s LNG infrastructure.
Serhiy Koretskyi, chairman of the board of Ukraine’s gas conglomerate Naftogaz, said in a Facebook post on Wednesday, Feb. 4, that the shipment was delivered to the LNG terminal in Świnoujście, Poland. The gas has since been transmitted into Ukraine’s gas network.
The shipment marks the first delivery of US LNG to Ukraine this year and forms part of broader efforts to secure gas supplies during the winter heating season.
Naftogaz cites winter demand, attacks
Additional gas volumes are particularly important during periods of extreme cold and amid ongoing Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, Koretskyi said.
He added that the delivered volume would be sufficient to cover approximately one month of winter gas consumption for around 700,000 households.
“We are working systematically with international partners to ensure that Ukraine has the resources to get through the winter in a stable manner amid constant attacks on gas and energy infrastructure,” Koretskyi said.
More US gas expected in 2026
Koretskyi also thanked ORLEN for its cooperation and said additional shipments of US LNG are expected between February and March.
In late 2025, Naftogaz and ORLEN signed an agreement to deliver 300 mcm (10.6 Bcf) of US LNG in the first quarter of 2026.
In total, Ukraine plans to import up to 1 billion cubic meters (bcm), or 35.3 Bcf, of LNG from the US in 2026 as part of Kyiv’s efforts to diversify supply sources and strengthen the resilience of the energy system. The first US LNG shipment arrived in December 2024.
Ukrainian officials have repeatedly said expanding LNG imports is critical to reducing risks associated with damage to domestic gas production and transmission facilities caused by Russian strikes.
“Russia will do everything to prevent us from extracting our gas… The task is to have money to import gas so that people have gas,” President Volodymyr Zelensky said in October 2025.
