Founded in 1995 at the initiative of parents, Pechersk School International (PSI Kyiv) has been a benchmark for the international community and progressive Ukrainian families for three decades. Today, the school reinforces its leadership position through dual accreditation from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the International Baccalaureate (IB).
PSI’s special status as a non-profit organisation underscores its main goal — to invest all resources exclusively in the development of the educational environment, the professional growth of teachers, and the well-being of students.
Stability and trust: education that continues under any circumstances
For families choosing a school in Kyiv today, the concept of quality education is inextricably linked to safety and continuity. Pechersk School International has adapted its work to the current challenges and ensures a stable learning rhythm thanks to a powerful generator and full preparedness for prolonged power outages.
Even during massive attacks, when the capital experienced prolonged power cuts, PSI Kyiv continued to operate and switched to an online format only in exceptional cases — to replace equipment.
At the same time, the school’s focus goes far beyond academic success. PSI has created an atmosphere of “normality” where students continue to explore the world, implement creative projects, and build meaningful social connections.
Academic continuum: a path to global success
PSI Kyiv offers a unique academic path for Ukraine, for students aged 3 to 18. The curriculum is based on the International Baccalaureate® (IB) standards — the gold standard in international education, widely recognized by leading universities worldwide.
The educational process is structured as a holistic ecosystem:
- Primary Years Programme (PYP). The foundation, where children’s natural curiosity is transformed into systematic knowledge through inquiry and exploration.
- Middle Years Programme (MYP). A period of developing independence. The programme encourages children to find connections between subjects and real life to form a global perspective.
- Diploma Programme (DP). The final pre-university stage. This is an academically demanding programme that opens pathways to top universities in Europe and the USA. In addition to an international diploma, students have the opportunity to obtain a Ukrainian state certificate.
Teaching is conducted in English by a highly qualified team of teachers, most of whom have international experience. Nearly 60% of our faculty are internationally recruited allows students not only to learn the language, but to live in it, while gaining multicultural experience.
Openness to dialogue
Community lies at the heart of the school’s philosophy. The motto “A place where we belong” reflects the principle of daily interaction, where every voice is important. School Director Trae Holland emphasises the importance of remaining open to new families looking for their place in this community:
“Pechersk School International is more than an educational institution. It is a community growing alongside Ukraine and for Ukraine. Even in difficult conditions, our unwavering mission remains to educate young people who are aware of their role in the world, able to think critically, collaborate, and take responsibility for the future.
We are opening our school and kindergarten to families wherever they may be to show that international education in Ukraine today can be stable, continuous, and meaningful. PSI is a space where a sense of belonging is preserved, where every child has the opportunity to learn, develop, and grow as an active member of the global community, even in times of war.”
