Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andriy Sybіha said Friday that China will supply humanitarian energy assistance to Ukraine, following repeated Russian attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure.
Sybіha made the announcement after meeting his Chinese counterpart, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, at the Munich Security Conference. The discussion focused on the ongoing war and efforts to bring it to an end.
“We discussed peace efforts and China’s important role in facilitating an end to the war,” Sybіha said. “I also updated Wang on the situation on the ground, including Russian attacks that have damaged facilities linked to Chinese companies.”
The talks come as China maintains close ties with Moscow. While Beijing claims a neutral stance on the war, it has not condemned Russia’s invasion. Kyiv and Western governments have accused China of providing economic support to Russia, including military components.
Sybіha emphasized Ukraine’s interest in high-level contacts with China, including a potential meeting between President Volodymyr Zelensky and Chinese leader Xi Jinping. The ministers also exchanged invitations to visit each other’s countries.
