Russia Launches 60 Drones at Naftogaz Sites Over 2 Days Around Invasion Anniversary

Ukraine’s largest oil and gas company said strikes continued without interruption for two days. Although the company confirmed that they had done some damage, the full extent of it remains unclear.

Russia launched roughly 60 attack drones at Naftogaz Group facilities in Ukraine’s Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions over two days, the company said on Feb. 25 – as part of intensifying Russian strikes around the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The attacks targeted gas storage sites and production infrastructure critical to heating civilian households during the winter season. Naftogaz said the strikes continued without interruption for two days. Although the company confirmed that the strikes had done some damage, the full extent of it remains unclear.

“Destruction has been recorded. As soon as the security situation allows, the company’s specialists, together with units of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS), will assess the consequences and begin eliminating them,” a Naftogaz press release quoted company CEO Serhiy Koretskyi as saying.

Response and recovery works will begin immediately after the security situation stabilizes, the company added.

The latest wave follows a separate drone strike on Feb. 24 – the anniversary of Russia’s 2022 invasion – when Russian forces attacked a gas production facility in the Kharkiv region throughout the day. The facility’s operations were halted after the facility was damaged.

“The attack is ongoing. Damage has been recorded. The facility’s operations have been suspended. Immediately after the air raid alert ends, the company’s specialists, together with DSNS units, will be able to begin eliminating the consequences of the shelling,” the press release quoted Koretskyi as saying at the time.

As Kyiv Post previously reported, Russia tripled the number of strikes on Naftogaz facilities in 2025 compared to the previous three years combined, with 229 attacks recorded last year alone. In total, the company has faced 401 attacks since the start of the full-scale invasion.

Since February 2022, 312 Naftogaz employees have been killed.
