Israel Says It Destroyed Aircraft Used by Iran’s Supreme Leader

The Israeli military said it destroyed an aircraft used by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and senior officials to coordinate military procurement and travel to allied countries.

Israel’s military said it destroyed an aircraft used by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei during a strike at Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport overnight on Monday, March 16.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a post on X that the aircraft was used by Khamenei, senior Iranian officials and military personnel.

According to the statement, the aircraft was used for both domestic and international flights related to military procurement and coordination with allied states.

The Israeli military said destroying the aircraft would undermine what it described as Iran’s ability to coordinate with countries aligned with Tehran and rebuild military capabilities.

The IDF said it would continue targeting assets used by Iran’s military.

On Feb. 28, Israel and the US launched strikes on Iran, killing its supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and a triggering war which spread across the Middle East. Iran responded by targeting Israeli and US interests across the region.
