Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Spain on Wednesday, visiting Sener Aerospace & Defence in Madrid, Presidential spokesperson Serhiy Nykyforov said.
“President Zelensky is inspecting equipment samples and production at Sener Aerospace & Defence. Ukrainian-Spanish defense agreements will be signed in his presence,” Nykyforov added, according to Ukrinform.
The visit will also include meetings with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Congress Speaker Francina Armengol, Senate President Pedro Rollán, and King Felipe VI.
Zelensky’s Spain trip follows his March 17 visit to the United Kingdom, where he and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer signed a new defense partnership to leverage Ukraine’s anti-drone expertise.
The agreement aims to “boost global defensive capability against the proliferation of low-cost, high-tech military hardware, including drones,” Starmer’s office said.
It combines Ukraine’s battlefield experience with Britain’s industrial base “to manufacture and supply drones and innovative capabilities” and provides £500,000 ($670,000) to fund an AI Centre of Excellence within Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence
The Spanish visit comes amid expected agreements on enhanced security and defense cooperation, leveraging Ukraine’s battlefield experience and the UK and Spain’s industrial capacity for drones and other advanced defense technologies.
