Spain to Provide €1 Billion in Military Aid to Ukraine in 2026

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced a new €1 billion military aid package for Ukraine in 2026, bringing Spain’s total support to €4 billion.

Spain will provide Ukraine with a €1 billion ($1.152 billion) military aid package in 2026, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said on Wednesday, March 18.

Speaking at a press conference with President Volodymyr Zelensky, Sánchez said the new package would bring Spain’s total assistance to Ukraine to €4 billion ($4.609 billion).

“I want to announce new measures from Spain – first of all, a new military aid package worth €1 billion for 2026,” Sánchez said.

He added that part of the support would include joint production of defense equipment.

Sánchez also said Spain has begun financing the SAFE program, which is expected to support Ukraine’s defense needs in 2026.

Sánchez said Ukraine can continue to rely on Spain for both defense against Russia and future reconstruction efforts.

“Spain will always support Ukraine,” he said.

Zelensky’s Spain trip follows his March 17 visit to the United Kingdom, where he and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer signed a new defense partnership to leverage Ukraine’s anti-drone expertise.

The agreement aims to “boost global defensive capability against the proliferation of low-cost, high-tech military hardware, including drones,” Starmer’s office said.

It combines Ukraine’s battlefield experience with Britain’s industrial base “to manufacture and supply drones and innovative capabilities” and provides £500,000 ($670,000) to fund an AI Centre of Excellence within Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence
