Trilateral talks between Russia, the United States and Ukraine are currently on pause, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday, March 19.
Speaking to Russian outlet Izvestia, Peskov said the negotiation process had stalled, though contacts between Moscow and Kyiv continue on humanitarian issues such as prisoner exchanges.
“The trilateral group is on pause,” Peskov said.
Russia will continue engaging with Ukraine on exchanges of prisoners of war and the bodies of fallen soldiers, he added.
Ukraine has also confirmed that talks have been delayed, citing the ongoing war in the Middle East.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi said on Wednesday that several rounds of consultations had been postponed but not canceled.
“They haven’t been canceled or abandoned, just delayed,” Tykhyi told reporters.
He added that communication between the parties remains ongoing despite the pause in formal meetings.
The negotiation process has been affected by rising tensions in the Middle East, which have shifted Washington’s focus and delayed diplomatic efforts.
At the same time, key issues such as territorial control remain unresolved.
Russia continues to demand that Ukraine withdraw from occupied regions in the east, while Kyiv has rejected such conditions.
