The deadly assault in Nikopol follows a period of intensified strikes across southern and central Ukraine. In Kherson, Russian artillery targeted residential buildings in the Korabelnyi district late Friday. Two women, aged 31 and 53, sustained shrapnel wounds and concussions. Local authorities reported that the shelling shattered approximately 100 windows in a nearby high-rise building.

These attacks occurred amid a nationwide drone offensive overnight. According to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russia launched 286 UAVs of various types – including Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas loitering munitions – from several locations within Russian territory.

Ukrainian air defense units intercepted 260 of the drones, but several impacts caused significant damage in other regions.

In Sumy an enemy loitering munition struck the 13th floor of a 16-story apartment building. The number of casualties in the city has risen to 13, including one child. More than 300 windows were shattered across four residential blocks.

Falling drone debris sparked a fire on the roof of a four-story office building in the Darnytsky district. No casualties have been reported in the capital so far.

In Dnipropetrovsk region, prior to the Nikopol strike, more than 20 attacks using drones and artillery injured a 5-month-old baby and a 6-year-old boy in the Nikopol and Synelnykove districts.

National railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia briefly suspended suburban train services in the Kyiv region during the peak of the aerial threat to evacuate passengers. Emergency crews remain on-site in Sumy and Nikopol to restore utility services and provide aid to displaced residents.
