Explosions Heard Across Kyiv as Russia Launches Midday Drone Attack

Journalists in the Kyiv Post newsroom in the city center reported several loud blasts and the distinct sound of air defense systems intercepting drones overhead.

Russian forces launched a daytime drone attack on Ukraine’s capital on Tuesday, with multiple explosions heard across the city as air defenses engaged incoming targets, according to local officials and Kyiv Post reporters on the ground.

Journalists in the Kyiv Post newsroom in the city center reported several loud blasts and the distinct sound of air defense systems intercepting drones overhead.

A Kyiv Post correspondent working remotely in the Solomianskyi district said he heard a powerful explosion and saw a plume of smoke from his window.

After stepping outside, he saw debris from a drone strike scattered across a local cemetery opposite a kindergarten.

A video, capturing the moment of the attack in the Solomyanskyi district, later appeared on social media.

Officials said at least one additional Shahed-type drone struck a residential building in the Shevchenkivskyi district.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko added that falling drone debris in the Shevchenkivskyi district caused a car collision on one of the streets. No immediate reports of casualties were released.

Earlier, monitoring channels warned that several Russian strike drones were approaching Kyiv and the surrounding region from the northeast.
