People Trapped Under Rubble After Massive Russian Strike on Kyiv

A Russian missile and drone attack damaged a residential building in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district, causing part of it to collapse. Officials said people may have been trapped under the rubble, while Ukraine’s State Emergency Service later reported that rescuers had pulled 10 people from the debris.

People were trapped under rubble after a Russian combined missile and drone attack damaged a residential building in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district early Thursday, causing part of the structure to collapse.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said rescuers were heading to the scene after preliminary reports indicated that people may have been trapped inside the damaged building.

“In the Darnytskyi district, according to preliminary information, structures collapsed in a residential building. Rescuers are heading to the scene,” Klitschko said.

Klitschko later said a search-and-rescue operation was underway.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (DSNS) reported that rescuers had pulled 10 people from the rubble.

Air raid sirens sounded and explosions were heard across the city as air defense units engaged incoming targets. Officials reported falling debris and damage in several districts, including Darnytskyi, Dniprovskyi, Holosiivskyi, Solomianskyi and Obolonskyi.

The overnight escalation came after Russia launched a massive daytime drone barrage on Wednesday.

President Volodymyr Zelensky had earlier warned of anticipated Russian attacks, citing Ukrainian intelligence reports that Moscow was actively positioning assets for a coordinated, large-scale offensive.
