Russia has launched another major overnight attack on Ukraine, killing at least five people and wounding 21 in Zaporizhzhia.
While Kyiv urgently needs more Patriot interceptors, there appears to be little willingness in Washington to provide them.
“The Americans are not enthusiastic about arming Ukraine,” Stefan Korshak, Senior Defense Correspondent at the Kyiv Post, says in World Talks. According to him, granting Ukraine a license to produce Patriot systems would not be in the United States’ interest. “They would be creating a competitor for themselves,” he adds.
Korshak notes that Ukraine, as a country at war, often completes projects far faster than expected. Nevertheless, producing Patriot missiles and interceptors would require specialized facilities and infrastructure that Ukraine does not currently possess.
