A large-scale march took place in central Kyiv on Sunday, with protesters demanding that Mykhailo Fedorov be reinstated as defense minister.
Protesters say President Volodymyr Zelensky has failed to explain to the public why Fedorov was dismissed.
Several thousand people gathered for the rally. The large procession began at the National Philharmonic on European Square, passed through Independence Square (Maidan), and continued to Ivan Franko Square near the Presidential Office.
Protesters chanted slogans including “Corruption kills” and “Listening to the people – that’s powerful.”
The president’s inner circle was also the subject of protestors’ wrath with former Defense Minister and National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov called a “devil.”
Overall, the demonstration was large-scale but peaceful.
Protesters say the lack of transparency in government decisions and the authorities’ failure to be accountable to society must come to an end.
The march is the last major protest ahead of parliament’s vote on the new defense minister, scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 18.
