Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) on Tuesday, Aug. 18, said it had uncovered alleged abuse by two military notification groups during mobilization in Odesa region, with investigators documenting 15 incidents involving 10 military personnel.
According to the DBR, the alleged abuses were uncovered as part of an operation dubbed “Honest Conscription,” carried out with assistance from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The two groups from one of the district Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Centers (TCCs) in Odesa region allegedly used force against civilians during mobilization efforts, beat them, used tear gas and forcibly took people to TCC facilities.
The DBR said it has so far documented 15 such incidents.
In one case, a man attempted to flee from a notification group. During the pursuit, the driver of a TCC service vehicle allegedly ran him over.
The DBR said the investigation is aimed at countering torture and unlawful violence by officials during mobilization activities.
The agency did not provide further details on the identities of the military personnel or say whether any suspects had been formally charged.
