Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) on Wednesday, Aug. 19, launched a special operation targeting an alleged criminal organization involving a current and a former Ukrainian lawmaker, as well as senior officials from the Presidential Office.
According to NABU, searches conducted as part of the operation, dubbed “Forrest Gump,” uncovered a document containing a crisis communication plan related to the activities of a Verkhovna Rada temporary investigative commission.
The document outlined communication steps and messages intended to respond to the public situation surrounding the commission’s work, NABU said.
The anti-corruption agencies said the alleged criminal organization operated under the leadership of the two lawmakers and involved senior officials from the Presidential Office and other individuals.
NABU and SAPO said further details of the operation would be released later.
