Russian troops attacked the city of Dnipro on Wednesday, Sept. 2, killing two people and injuring eight, according to local authorities.
Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration (OVA) chief Oleksandr Ganzha reported on Telegram at 1:12 p.m. that Russian forces had again attacked the city, sparking a fire.
Minutes later, he said at least six civilians had been injured.
Russian forces also struck food warehouses belonging to a retail chain.
“One person died as a result of the Russian attack on Dnipro. Rescuers are unblocking the body of a deceased man from under the rubble,” Ganzha reported at 1:37 p.m.
He later said the death toll had risen to two after a woman who had been seriously injured in the attack died in hospital.
“Medics fought for her life to the last, but could not save her. Sincere condolences to the relatives and friends of the deceased,” Ganzha wrote.
Two cars also caught fire during the attack, according to the State Emergency Service (DSNS).
“Firefighters extinguished the fire. Seventeen rescuers and five units of equipment from the State Emergency Service worked at the scene,” the DSNS said.
Ganzha later reported that the number of injured had risen to eight. Three people were hospitalized in critical condition, while the remaining five were in stable condition.
Several educational institutions and apartment buildings were also damaged in the attack.
Emergency crews were continuing to clear the aftermath and assess the full extent of the damage Wednesday evening.
