Three people were injured after a Russian strike damaged a 16-story apartment building in Kyiv’s Podil district on Tuesday, Sept. 1, city authorities said on Thursday.
The Kyiv City Military Administration (KMVA) reported the details on its official Telegram channel and added that seven were rescued from the scene.
Authorities did not provide details about the victims’ conditions.
Fire spreads across upper floors
The strike damaged parts of the building from the 13th through the 16th floors, according to the KMVA.
A fire broke out on the 14th floor and spread to the 15th. Firefighters extinguished the blaze after it covered about 100 square meters (1,076 square feet).
Rescuers led seven people from the damaged building to safety. Officials did not say whether other residents had been evacuated independently or how many apartments were affected.
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS) also published images from the scene showing extensive damage to the high-rise’s upper floors.
The Podil strike occurred during a broader Russian drone and missile barrage against Kyiv and the surrounding region. At least 12 people were killed, including eight in the capital, during the Sept. 1 attacks, according to Reuters.
