Thirteen people, including a 12-year-old girl, were injured on Thursday, Sept. 3, following a new wave of Russian attacks on Kyiv that targeted civilian infrastructure and prompted authorities to deploy emergency response teams across several districts.
According to the Kyiv City Military Administration (KMVA), the number of casualties rose over the course of the afternoon, from four injured reported at 5:10 p.m. local time, to six by 5:50 p.m.
Authorities confirmed that a child was among those wounded.
Victims received the necessary medical assistance, with three of them, including the child, taken to a hospital, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.
In the Holosiivskyi district, debris fell on the grounds of a residential complex and onto a roadway, while in the Sviatoshynskyi district debris reportedly fell near a private home.
Around 6:15 p.m. the KMVA reported that a nine-story residential building has been damaged in the Holosiivskyi district, with one civilian reported dead. Nearly an hour later, the administration said that the preliminary information about the person’s death could not be confirmed.
Debris also fell in the Solomianskyi district at three locations, including a park zone and a non-residential area. Additionaly, the KMVA reported that debris fell in the Darnytskyi district near a store, with premilinary information indicating there were casualties.
As air raid alerts continued in Kyiv, the total number of people injured across Kyiv from Thurday’s attacks reached 13 by 10:12 p.m. local time, according to the latest reports.
Currently, six people remain hospitalized, including the wounded child, Klitschko said while urging citizens to stay in safe locations.
Repeated strikes on the Kyiv region
Local Telegram channels reported that warehouses belonging to the pharmaceutical company Biocon in the city of Boryspil southeast of Kyiv were hit and caught fire. However, authorities did not confirm that the damaged facilities belonged to the company.
According to Ukraine’s Air Force, Russia launched 163 attack drones against Ukraine between 6 p.m. on Wednesday and 8 a.m. on Thursday, including Shahed-type drones, about half of which were jet-powered, as well as Gerbera, S8000 Banderol, and Parodiya drones.
Ukrainian air defenses reported downing or suppressing 135 drones as of 8:30 a.m. on Thursday.
At 8:12 a.m., the fourth air alert of the day was declared.
Because of the drone threat, another air alert was in effect from 3:42 p.m. in Kyiv.
In Kyiv’s Podil district, a Russian strike damaged the upper floors of a 16-story apartment building, injuring three people on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Thursday morning that Russia had begun a new escalation of its aerial campaign after overnight attacks caused damage in 13 Ukrainian regions and wounded 17 people in Odesa.
Ukraine has faced almost continuous Russian aerial assaults in recent days. The attacks have targeted residential buildings, transport facilities, energy infrastructure and other non-military sites across the country.
