Ukraine harvests almost 59 million tons of grain, 9.6 million tons of sunflower

The country by this date harvested 22.3 million tonnes of maize, the press service said.

The average yield of grain crops in the country at the moment is 42.2 centners per ha against 38.9 centners per ha in 2013. According to the ministry, the highest grain yield was obtained in Khmelnytsky region (62.1 centners per ha), Vinnytsia region (58.4 centners per ha), Kyiv region (58.2), Cherkasy region (56.9), and Sumy region (56.2).

In addition, farmers harvested 9.6 million tonnes of sunflower seeds from 5 million hectares (97% of the forecast) and some 3.7 million tonnes of soybeans from 1.7 million ha (96%).

A total of 13.2 million tonnes of sugar beets by November 7 had been collected from 291,000 hectares (87% of the forecast). According to the ministry, now 46 sugar mills operate in Ukraine, which processed almost 9.55 million tonnes of sugar beets and produced 1.326 million tonnes of sugar.
