MOSCOW - Russia's Rospotrebnadzor head Gennady Onishchenko says the sale of about 32 tonnes of Ukrainian cheese has been suspended across Russia.

Russia’s Consumer Rights Protection Service (Rospotrebnadzor) is ready to send its specialists to Ukraine in March to inspect cheese producing factories.

"If we receive the official consent and guarantees, we are ready to send a team of specialists to inspect cheese producers before deciding whether to allow them to resume cheese exports to Russia," Onishchenko has told Interfax.

"We could do it this week" but there has been no official confirmation from the Ukrainian side yet, he said.

Russian authorities continue to remove banned Ukrainian cheese products from retail trade networks over their failure to meet Russian milk standards.
