You're reading: Centrenergo buys 1 million tonnes of coal from little-known foreign company

PJSC Centrenergo in January-March 2015 purchased one million tonnes of coal worth $76.7 million (Hr 1.988 billion at the National Bank of Ukraine rate at the time of the transaction, including VAT) from little-known foreign company Sovevik Holding Limited, according to information from the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry which was provided in response to a request of MP Viktoria Voitsytska.

According to the information, the second largest supplier to Centrenergo in January-June 2015 was state enterprise Kiseliova mine – 1.2 million tonnes of coal for Hr 1.584 billion.

The ministry said that Centrenergo acquired coal without conducting procurement procedures as the law on public procurement allows for such operations for the acquisition of fuel for electricity production.

The ministry also provided the full list of companies supplying coal to Centrenergo in the first and second quarters of 2015 and indicated the volume of supply and cost of fuel.
