You're reading: Construction in Ukraine in August down by 37.1 percent

The volume of construction work in Ukraine, apart from the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea and Sevastopol city, in August 2014 was 37.1 percent lower than in August 2013, while in July 2014 the decline was 31 percent on July 2013, the State Statistics Service has said.

The decline in construction work in August 2014 on July 2014 was 11.5 percent, and the decline in July 2014 on June 2014 was percent.

In general, the volume of construction work in Ukraine in January-August 2014 amounted to 29.7 billion Hr, which is 15.6 percent less than in the same period in 2013, whereas in January-July 2014 the decline was 12.4 percent compared to the same period in 2013.

The service said that a reduction in construction work in August 2014 on July 2014 was seen during construction of all facilities.

According to the service, the fall in residential construction in August 2014 was 11.3 percent compared to July 2014, non-residential construction – 6 percent and engineering facilities construction – 14.3 percent.

New construction, reconstruction and technical re-equipment accounted for 84.3 percent of the total volume of work, and overhauls and repairs – for 8.3 percent and 7.4 percent respectively.

A decline in construction work in January-August 2014 was recorded in 20 regions and in Kyiv, while in the capital the fall was 15.3 percent compared to January-August 2013, to 6.739 billion Hr.

The largest decline in the six months was recorded in Cherkasy region (40.1 percent, to 349.7 million Hr). The highest growth was fixed in Chernihiv region (40.3 percent, to 369.7 million Hr).
