You're reading: DTEK extracts almost half of all coal in Ukraine

The share of total coal extraction of mines under the control of the largest private energy holding in Ukraine – DTEK – in the first quarter of 2013 came to 48.1%, read materials of the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry of Ukraine.

The materials say that coalmines in Ukraine produced 20.823 million tonnes of coal in Q1, 2013 compared to Q1, 2012, while DTEK’s mines produced 10.014 million tonnes.

DTEK Pavlohradvuhillia over the period extracted 4.472 million tonnes of coal, DTEK Rovenkiantracit – 1.038 million tonnes, DTEK Sverdlovantracit – 1.632 million tonnes, DTEK Komsomolets Donbasu Mine – 1.038 million tonnes, DTEK Dobropilliavuhillia – 809,200 tonnes and Bilozerska Mine – 323,200 tonnes.

Taking into account Krasnodonvuhillia, which is part of Metinvest (System Capital Management holds a 71.25% stake in the group), which in January-March 2013 extracted 1.456 million tonnes, SCM’s share of total coal extraction in Ukraine will be 53.1%.

As reported, coalmines in Ukraine in January-March 2013 tentatively cut coal extraction by 3.6% or 773,900 tonnes year-over-year, to 20.824 million tonnes.

Coalmines in Ukraine in 2012 upped coal production in comparison with 2010 by 4.8% (by 3.955 million tonnes), to 85.946 million tonnes, the Ukrainian Energy and Coal Ministry said.

The share of total coal extraction of mines under the control of DTEK reached 46.2% in 2012.
