The largest private vertically integrated holding of Ukraine, DTEK, is mulling the possibility of importing gas from Europe, a source in the Ukrainian government has told Interfax-Ukraine.

According to him, at present DTEK is in talks with potential European partners.

The interlocutor of the agency said the energy holding plans to begin gas deliveries from Europe to Ukraine in 2013.

The press service of DTEK confirmed this, with reference to Commercial Director Andriy Favorov.

“DTEK is in talks with foreign companies on the possibility of importing gas from neighboring countries,” he said.

According to Favorov, imports of natural gas from Europe to Ukraine could be performed if it is technically and economically feasible.

“DTEK plans to build a system of interaction with foreign gas suppliers, including on the spot market, as well as work out technical possibilities for such operations,” said the commercial director of DTEK.

According to the holding, now the gas price in Europe is lower than that of Naftogaz Ukrainy, therefore DTEK is considering gas purchases from European companies in 2013 to partially provide the combined heat and power plants of PJSC Kyivenergo with fuel.
