You're reading: DTEK wins tender for 40% stake in Donetskoblenergo

The largest private vertically integrated energy holding of Ukraine, DTEK, which is controlled by businessman Rinat Akhmetov, has won a tender for a 40.061% stake in Donetskoblenergo, offering Hr 467.6 million for the stake.

Initially, DTEK proposed Hr 449.6 million for the stake and its rival – Luhansk Energy Association controlled by businessman Konstantin Grigorishin – bid Hr 449.5 million.

At the tender four bid increments were made. The price grew to Hr 467.6 million. Luhansk Energy Association did not offer the larger sum for the shares in the regional electricity supply company, and the State Property Fund of Ukraine (SPF) announced that DTEK had won the tender.

The tender to sell shares in Donetskoblenergo was announced on Nov. 16, 2011. The starting price for the 26,246,875 shares in Donetskoblenergo is Hr 449.5 million. The bid increment is Hr 4.5 million.

The bidder for the stake in Donetskoblenergo has to have had transmitted electricity itself of a volume of at least 30% of the amount of electricity transmitted by Donetskoblenergo within the past three years or own a company that has transmitted such an amount of electricity.

In late 2011, DTEK won tenders to sell a 25% stake in Kyivenergo and a 45.103% stake in Zakhidenergo.

DTEK already owns a 30.827% stake in Donetskoblenergo. Energy Company of Ukraine will own 25% plus one share stake in the energy company after the tender.

Opened joint-stock company Poltavaoblenergo, controlled by Grigorishin and Ihor Kolomoisky, was DTEK’s rival in the tender to sell Kyivenergo.

At the tender four bid increments were performed. The price grew by Hr 18 million, to Hr 450.5 million.

DTEK was the only bidder in the tender to sell Zakhidenergo and bought the stake for Hr 1.932 billion, which is equal to the starting price.
