Ukraine hopes that the so-called "cheese conflict" with Russia will be settled without the intervention of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ukrainian First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade Vadym Kopylov has said.

"I think that this won’t happen," he said at a press conference on Thursday, asked whether Ukraine intends to appeal to WTO rules due to the conflict.

Kopylov said that in 2012 Ukraine would pay serious attention to technical regulations, "that is, the transition to new standards for us."

He noted that new quality standards "should be better than those in Russia, so that there’s a fight for our products."
