Last week in Lviv the Electron Concern presented a first low-deck tram in Ukraine, which started operating on July 1, 2013.

“First in over 20 years a new design of a vehicle, which consists of Ukrainian-made knots and engineering work by 80%, has been presented in Ukraine. There are analogs neither in Ukraine nor in the CIS,” Vice Premier of Ukraine Oleksandr Vilkul said at the presentation of the tram on June 27, 2013.

He said that at present, 95% of trams running in 22 Ukrainian cities need to be replaced. He also said that over the past 20 years, the tram fleet has been upgraded mainly thanks to the purchases of ‘second hand’ trams from Europe.

The vice premier said that the use of new trams will allow reducing power consumption by 40%, which will allow sending more funds to the further modernization of public transport.

Vilkul reminded that at present, the government is drawing up a mechanism for attracting loans to buy electric transport under the Economy Stimulation Program. According to the projects, the funds will be returned thanks to the funds from the national and local budgets in the ratio of 50 to 50.

The representatives of the Electron Concern said that the tram was made under an order of Lviv City Council. Its price is around UAH 13 million, and the tram can carry 250 passengers.

According to the Electron Concern, the annual capacity of the enterprises will allow producing 100 trams and 100 trolleybuses.

According to a posting on the Web site of the concern, this is T5L64 five-section six-axis model of 30.2 meters long. The wagon has six doors on one side open. The warranty for the body of the tram is 18 years.

In addition, the concern offers T3L44 three-section four-axis wagon of 19.5 meters long and T7L86 seven-section eight-axis wagon of 40.9 meters.
