The European Union has approved the payment of a first tranche of EUR 31 million to Ukraine under the country's Energy Strategy in the energy efficiency area.

The press service of the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving reported that the agency head, Mykola Pashkevych, reported the decision, referring to an official letter of the representative office of the European Commission in Ukraine.

Pashkevych said that the funds would be sent to finance energy efficiency measures as top-priority ones under the state target economic program on energy efficiency and the development of energy generation from renewable sources and alternative fuel for 2010-2015.
