Moscow, Sept. 26 (Interfax) - Gazprom has denied an allegation by a Ukrainian official on Monday that Russia and Ukraine had agreed terms for new contracts on exports of Russian Ukrainian gas to Ukraine and on the transit of Russian gas through Ukrainian territory to Europe.

"As of this moment there is no agreement on changing the terms of the contracts between Gazprom and [Ukrainian national oil and gas company] Naftogaz. At the same time, during negotiations that took place this weekend it was possible to bring our positions on gas cooperation closer together. There is still a very large amount of work to do. Negotiations will continue, including during this week," Gazprom spokesman Sergei Kupriyanov told reporters.

During a visit to Russia this weekend, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych discussed the gas issue with Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
